Have food, and they will come... Making the cafeteria a vibrant center of delicious and affordable food and fun will invite socializing and community engagement over a meal. A "te invito" event for different communities to come together to gather for a meal and learn more about "civic engagement" should produce more civic engagement in the community. Maybe host a "Marin County" Bingo or Jeopardy-like event, complete with food and prizes. Another Idea: I hear high school youth are having difficulty finding employment. Perhaps hosting paid youth internship events and offering youth small prizes for participation and having a "workforce development/career counseling" even for high school youth, engaging current CalWORKs Employment Development Counselors, WIOA staff, and local nonprofit organizations which support youth to bring employment services to youth in our community at this event, assisting with short sessions on interview skills and "build your resume", showcasing transferrable skills, some basic AI tools for resume and job search, as well as showcasing best customer service techniques, and demonstrating to youth the benefits of public service internships and jobs... youth need a way to make income and learn employment skills as it's becoming harder and harder to find employment for less skilled laborers.
