I would love to see a new play festival, featuring plays by local playwrights. Too many of the theaters around here aspire to be "national" and don't feature or support local writers. I think if you put together a number of new, contemporary plays with themes that are of the moment, it would create excitement. Of course all the local playwrights would market their own plays as part of the festival, and that will greatly improve attendance and build buzz for the venue. I happen to live in Berkeley and I confess -- I am a playwright, so I have a particular interest in this. I would, however, be happy to work with you to develop and produce such a festival. Please don't just trot out all the dyed-in-the-wool productions everyone has seen a million times (Christmas Carol, anyone?) just because they have name recognition. You have a new venue - shoot for the stars! Do something new and unique, and support the local playwrighting community. Thanks for considering, and feel free to contact me
