The Civic Center could benefit from more fun, interactive activities focused on creating, playing, or working with things and have it be targeted to residents of all ages rather than the same demographic. The events at the Civic Center currently consist of art exhibits, the performing arts (theater, poetry, concerts, etc.), and food events like the Farmer's Market and French Market. These are nice things to have, but ultimately feel repetitive as the County goes through the rotation of events within this limited sphere where the focus is to merely observe or indulge in something. It doesn't necessarily stimulate attendees to be creative and have more control over their experience. I believe the County should consider diversifying the type of events they offer to target residents with a wide range of interests. For example, game nights for people interested in board games or video games. Game shows where families or strangers are paired up in teams for some family-friendly competition. Trivia night, karaoke, scavenger hunts are all things that encourage people to have fun in groups or team settings. The events could be focused on team-based activities to bond families and community together rather than the current offerings that are more solitary experiences. In general, I think residents would also enjoy activities where they take an active part in creating something that they get to take home with them and use in the future, while also building on a skill. For example, workshops for people who like to build things like furniture and to teach residents, including young people, how to work with tools. Pottery classes to encourage people to make their own customized, functional, decorative items for their homes. Cooking classes for residents to learn to make a dish and also have dinner for the night at the end of it. The Roller Disco Daze was a good step in this direction. Keep doing things like that.
