It would be really nice to have a grand piano somewhere in the Marin County Civic Center where employees or visitors who know how to play could sit down and share their talent. Imagine walking through the building and hearing someone playing a beautiful song—it would make the Civic Center feel even more welcoming and bring a little joy to everyone's day. Music has always had a way of bringing people together, and something as simple as a piano could create moments that people remember.

"A Small Investment with a Big Impact" I have an idea that I believe could make a meaningful difference in employee wellness, engagement, and workplace culture at the Marin County Civic Center: Investing into one or two foldable table tennis (ping pong) tables in a common area. This is a simple, low-cost initiative that could have a lasting positive impact. The Civic Center has the available space, and modern table tennis tables are foldable, mobile, and easy to store when not in use. They require very little maintenance while offering tremendous value to employees. "Why It Matters?" Breaks are meant to help employees recharge, yet many of us spend that time sitting in the same place and scrolling through our phones. A ping pong table would encourage employees to step away from their desks, get moving, and return to work feeling refreshed and energized. Beyond the physical activity, table tennis naturally brings people together. It creates opportunities for employees from different departments to meet, interact, and build relationships they might not otherwise have. A simple invitation; "Want to play a quick game?"can spark conversations, strengthen workplace connections, and foster a more collaborative culture. During my recent travels through Amsterdam, Paris, London, and Manchester, I noticed that many successful organizations and public spaces embraced table tennis as a way to encourage interaction and wellness. People naturally gathered around the tables, challenged one another to quick games, and enjoyed moments of connection during the workday. I even joined in myself. The experience demonstrated how something so simple can create a positive, energetic atmosphere.
