Marin Humane Society greatly needs an increase in the number of Animal Control Officers available to the county on a daily basis. They are stretched too thin and are unable to attend to Marin’s increased numbers of animals needing assistance. According to the county: “Roughly 30% of the animal control service costs are paid directly by Marin County, while the remaining 70% is split among the member cities and towns through a joint powers agreement.” The budget for Animal Control needs to be augmented to accommodate the huge population of domestic and wild animals requiring assistance in Marin. It is insanely frustrating to see an animal in distress and then often told by MHS there is no one available to make a call. If this is a budgeting problem, let’s fix it.
