We need to have a unified, holistic vision that emphasizes the relationships among problems and solutions in different areas and at different levels. In the 1960s and 1970's, this allowed synergy to develop among different movements - for peace, equality, civil rights, the environment and more -- as well as among different regions and different levels of government - local, state and national. This synergy in turn produced real progress supported by people across the political spectrum. Sadly, work in many areas today has become fragmented - "siloed" is the current term. Yet emerging ideas are pointing the way back to holism and synergy. One is One Health, the idea that the health of our planet and our people are inseparable. Another is Sociobiodiversity, the idea that diverse human populations and diverse non-human populations together give us greater strength and resiliency. We will will solve more problems more effectively if "the right hand knoweth what the left hand is doing."
