Marin County should make reducing health inequities a top priority. Even as one of California’s healthiest counties, Marin remains one of the most racially disparate in the US. Communities of color and low‑income residents continue to face higher disease burdens, limited access to quality care, and disproportionate environmental and systemic barriers. Having lived here for 20 years, I’ve seen firsthand how racism and classism—sometimes subtle, sometimes overt—deeply affect people’s health and well‑being. Addressing these inequities requires not only stronger policies and investments, but also meaningful community education about the impact of racism and how it shapes health outcomes. Ensuring all residents understand these realities is essential to creating a healthier, more equitable Marin where every community can truly thrive.
