Privacy

Engage Marin collects two kinds of information: what you post (which is public) and information about your account or session (which is not). This page describes both. For the public-record side of the story, see the Public Records page.

When you post an idea or comment, we collect the text of the post, the time, and the account or guest session associated with it. When you sign in, we collect your email address and any profile information you provide (display name, city, avatar). When you interact with the platform, we collect basic technical information like your browser type and IP address for security and abuse prevention.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, or any biometric information. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.

Account and session information is used to keep the platform functioning — to log you in, to enforce per-session voting limits, to detect and respond to abuse, and to give county staff the information they need to moderate. It is not sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing.

The text of every published idea and comment is public, along with the display name (if any) and city of the person who posted it. Upvote counts are public; individual upvote records are not. Downvote counts are not displayed at all. Moderation actions are logged and visible to staff; an audit trail is maintained for accountability.

Engage Marin uses cookies that are necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your guest-session vote budget. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics that follow you off the site.

You can post anonymously, edit your profile, or close your account at any time. Closing an account removes your name from existing posts but does not delete the posts themselves — they remain as part of the public record (see Public Records). California residents have additional rights under state privacy law; details will appear here in the final version of this page.
